About the app

What is Chiari Companion?

A private iOS and Android journal for people with Chiari malformation and their caregivers. You log symptoms, headache episodes, medications, imaging notes, and appointment questions; the app keeps them organized for your next visit.

Does it provide medical advice?

No. The app does not diagnose, interpret imaging, recommend medications or treatment, or detect emergencies. Patterns and summaries it shows are simple descriptions of what you entered. Always work with a qualified clinician for medical decisions.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

In private app storage on your phone. There is no account system and no Creative Factory server that stores your journal. Android app data is excluded from backup and device transfer. iOS device backup may include data if you enable iCloud backup.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Delete Everything inside the app removes all entries and attached files. Uninstalling the app also removes its local data.

Can I export my data?

Pro users can generate a PDF visit summary locally and share it through the iOS or Android system share sheet.

Permissions

Why does the app ask for location?

Only if you want the barometric-pressure correlation feature. The app fetches local pressure once a day to compare against your headache log. Your coordinates are not stored and are not sent to us. You can deny location entirely, the rest of the app works without it.

Why does it ask for Apple Health or Health Connect access?

Optional. On Android, the app requests only steps, sleep, and resting heart rate. These values stay on-device and appear as context beside your own logs. Revoke access any time in Apple Health or Health Connect settings.

Why does it ask for notifications?

Only used for medication reminders and an optional daily check-in nudge.

Subscriptions

What's in the Pro subscription?

Pattern insights and doctor-ready PDF visit summaries. The free tier covers daily journaling, unlimited entries, imaging notes, surgery records, and optional app lock.

How do I cancel?

Open Apple ID Subscriptions on iOS or Google Play → Payments & subscriptions on Android, select Chiari Companion, then cancel. Access continues until the end of the paid period.

Refunds?

Refunds are handled by the store where you purchased: Apple's purchase support or Google Play refund support.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes or freezes

Force-close and reopen the app. If it persists, restart your phone. Contact us with your phone model, operating-system version, and the last action you took.

I can't unlock the app

Your operating system handles authentication. Confirm that biometrics or a device screen lock is configured. Android also offers a recovery action on the locked screen to turn off the app lock.

The weather/barometric feature isn't showing

Check that you granted approximate location. The app shows a descriptive timing comparison after about two weeks of pressure snapshots; it does not determine whether weather causes symptoms.
