About the app

What is Chiari Companion?

A private iPhone journal for people with Chiari malformation and their caregivers. You log symptoms, headache episodes, medications, imaging notes, and appointment questions; the app keeps it organized for your next visit.

Does it provide medical advice?

No. The app does not diagnose, interpret imaging, recommend medications or treatment, or detect emergencies. Patterns and summaries it shows are simple descriptions of what you entered. Always work with a qualified clinician for medical decisions.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

On your iPhone. There is no account system and no server we run that stores your journal. iCloud backup may include the data if you have iCloud backup enabled for the device in iOS Settings.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Delete Everything inside the app removes all entries and attached files. Uninstalling the app also removes its local data.

Can I export my data?

Pro users can generate a PDF visit summary from their own logs and share it using iOS share sheet. CSV export is in development.

Permissions

Why does the app ask for location?

Only if you want the barometric-pressure correlation feature. The app fetches local pressure once a day to compare against your headache log. Your coordinates are not stored and are not sent to us. You can deny location entirely — the rest of the app works without it.

Why does it ask for Apple Health access?

Optional. If granted, it can read sleep, heart-rate, and a few related signals to show alongside your own logs. You can revoke this any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.

Why does it ask for notifications?

Only used for medication reminders and an optional daily check-in nudge.

Subscriptions

What's in the Pro subscription?

Pattern insights, doctor-ready PDF exports, surgery history reports, and unlimited records. The free tier covers daily journaling.

How do I cancel?

iOS Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Chiari Companion → Cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.

Refunds?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com within 90 days of purchase.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes or freezes

Force-quit and reopen. If it persists, restart your iPhone. If still happening, please contact us with your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About).

I can't unlock with Face ID / Touch ID

iOS handles biometric authentication. Make sure Face ID or Touch ID is enrolled for your device, and that Chiari Companion has permission in iOS Settings → Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID).

The weather/barometric feature isn't showing

Check that you granted location permission. The feature builds correlations over ~2 weeks of data, so it may be quiet at first.
